The King's Ransom formed in the summer of 1965 in Allentown. Their first single, "Shame" / "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow", was recorded at Virtue studio in Philly. The unique guitar sound was created by Bob Werley playing a 12-string through a Vox Super-Beatle amp with lots of mid-range. The group that recorded the single consisted of Bob Dougherty (lead vocals), Vince Homick (rhythm guitar), Bob Werley (lead guitar), Glen Zoski (bass) and Chuck Hoey (drums). Before this 45 was released they recorded three songs at the Greek Orthodox Church in Bethlehem. Their manager, Mike Homick, had the songs pressed on one side of a 12 inch acetate at Allentown Record Co. The acetates were sent around to various record labels, but remained forgotten and unreleased until recently.
